What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device (computer, phone, or tablet). They help the website remember things about your visit — like whether you are logged in or which language you prefer.
Cookies We Use
TabWall uses only four cookies. All of them are necessary for the platform to work properly.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session token | Strictly necessary | Keeps you logged in so you do not have to enter your email and verification code every visit | 30 days |
| Security token | Strictly necessary | Protects your login forms against cross-site attacks (CSRF protection) | Until you close your browser |
| Redirect URL | Strictly necessary | Remembers which page to return you to after you log in | Until you close your browser |
| Language preference | Functional | Remembers your chosen language (English, German, Spanish, or French) | 10 minutes |
Session Token
When you log in to TabWall with your email and one-time code, we set a session cookie so you stay logged in. This cookie lasts for 30 days. After that, you will need to log in again.
Technical note: In production (HTTPS), this cookie is named __Secure-next-auth.session-token. In development, it is named next-auth.session-token.
Security Token
Every time you see a login form, we set a security cookie to make sure the form submission comes from TabWall and not from a malicious website. This is a standard web security measure called CSRF protection. The cookie is deleted when you close your browser.
Technical note: In production, this cookie is named __Host-next-auth.csrf-token. In development, it is named next-auth.csrf-token.
Redirect URL
When you click a link that requires you to be logged in, we store that page address in a cookie. After you log in, we send you back to that page instead of the home screen. The cookie is deleted when you close your browser.
Technical note: In production, this cookie is named __Secure-next-auth.callback-url. In development, it is named next-auth.callback-url.
Language Preference
When you choose a language on the platform, we save your choice in a cookie called NEXT_LOCALE. This way, the platform shows you content in your preferred language. This cookie is refreshed each time you visit or change your language and lasts for 10 minutes. Your language choice is also stored in your browser's local storage, so your preference is remembered even after the cookie expires.
Do We Need Your Consent?
No. Under the ePrivacy Directive (Article 5(3)), cookies that are strictly necessary for a service to work do not require your consent. All cookies listed above fall into this category:
- Authentication cookies (session token, security token, redirect URL) are required for the login process and keeping you securely logged in.
- Language preference cookie is a functional cookie necessary to deliver the service in your chosen language.
TabWall does not use:
- Analytics or tracking cookies (no Google Analytics, no tracking pixels)
- Advertising or marketing cookies
- Third-party cookies
- Social media cookies
Because we only use strictly necessary and functional cookies, no consent banner is needed.
Managing Cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View which cookies are stored on your device
- Delete individual cookies or all cookies at once
- Block cookies from specific websites or all websites
Please note that if you block or delete TabWall's cookies, you may not be able to stay logged in, and you will need to enter your email and verification code every time you visit.
Here is how to manage cookies in common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions > Cookies
